This month at After Twilight Radio has been a blast! Basically, the former host Chad Austin became the executive producer of the show and I became the Host of After Twilight Radio. I am Jonathan Watts by the way so for those of you that don’t already know me hi! Anyway, we moved the show from Raleigh North Carolina to Charlotte North Carolina and that took a few weeks. We are back on the air now and our first two episodes are interviews with Lorraine Warren and Nick Redforn! Talk about kicking off the new year with a bang! Anyway, you can continue to listen to our show for free 24/7 at aftertwilightradio.com. We will be bringing back the archives that will allow you to listen to interviews with literally the top guests of any show out there in my opinion. This week you can listen to Lorraine Warren and this Tuesday night we are bringing Nick Redforn the noted cryptozoologist. I will drop onto this blog once a week and update you on the next guest so until then adios!

Residential Case
In addition to being a paranormal talk radio host, I spend as much time as I can in the field investigating the very thing I, Dianna, and our many guests discuss. That given, there was an intense situation that I was made aware of in rural North Carolina that needed immediate attention. The clients were driven, at great expense, from a beautiful home they rented, and we met them as they were finishing loading a monster U-haul truck. These people were visibly shaken and there was something wrong whether it be paranormal or not. The husband was soft spoken but obviously very serious especially considering he was a large, take care of business kind of person that I am quite familiar with. We had a brief conversation and he handed me the key to the house, telling me to leave it under the mat for the landlord "cause the last time I see this place will be from my rear view mirror."
Now, I know what you are thinking..."Why did they need you if they were leaving anyhow?" Which was exactly my first question for the client. His answer was concise and very clear, "I don't want that thing to following my family." Perfect sense, and the answer I needed to put things in motion for an investigation the very next night. Being the father of two, hearing a child involved immediately gets me in high gear to want to help out all I could. The calls were put in, the team was assembled, and we were to meet them and hold a bit of vigil to sever the connection that this alleged spirit had made with the latest tenants. Not undiscovered country for me but a sensitive situation none the less.

USS North Carolina Investigation
Greg, Mike, and I returned to the “Showboat” as it was so deemed by it's peers, battleship USS North Carolina. This a Saturday night, the first of November 2008, did not let us down when we spent yet another night aboard the beast of a ship. Now, I think my colleagues would agree that the night was quiet until about 4 am when we started to get responses on the Panasonic RR-DR60 in a notoriously active location of the ship. The clocks were turned back that night so we had an extra hour on the excursion and gave us some more time to cover the massive vessel. We were glad we had it when things began to get interesting.
My focus on the evening was IR photography and audio. As per usual, we conducted many EVP sessions in hopes of a response and got very, very little until we were in the process of a last ditch effort. After experimenting with a version of “white noise” we began another of our attempts for a capture, and it wasn't long before we started getting them. In the next couple hours, we captured 2 possible Class A EVPs, in addition to several other “toss ups.” Not a bad evening's work considering that you come out of investigations with less than a 95% chance of recording truly phenomenal data.
I think audio is the most effect means of spirit communications for various reasons that were yet again reinforced to me that night. The USS North Carolina is a special place that allows a person to live that sensation of adrenaline you get driving a muscle car. You never know what's around the corner on the Showboat, and I can't wait to get back to do it all over again.

Mark, I wanted to ask you (and Chad) about looking to get my own DR60's, or another device that has similar performance. From reading around, people have pointed to the Panasonic US360 and a good model. One example is from this site: http://www.hpiparanormal.net/evpthread.aspVoice 2000s DA300 - 0 EVPSony B300 - 3 EVPPanasonic US360 - 14 EVP (better clarity)Panasonic DR60 - 23 EVP (worse clarity)They don't like the DR60 as much as other models because it is not as clear. But they also point out it out performs all other devices...
Anyway, please send along your suggestions!

Hi Mike,Hope you are well. The RR-DR60 is excellent in terms of quantity of results. In comparison toother recorders, the quality is not so good. You do develop an ear forlistening to the unique audio captured on the RR-DR60 over time but resultscan still be quite distorted and difficult to fathom, although I stress notalways! The results are rather unique and the way that the recorders work isunique in terms of being dedicated voice activated devices. There are noother recorders that come close to it.I have never used a Panasonic US360 but the Sony B300 has come good on manyoccasions. The Sony needs to be used on 'high microphone sensitivity' modeand be set to the lowest possible recording quality for best results. Iwould be interested to find out if the team who made the study utilised therecorder with these settings. The Sony B300 is my second choice behind theRR-DR60.In terms of cost, this is an easy one. The RR-DR60 recorders sell forridiculous money these days. The most expensive I have ever witnessed onebay was $1400, but you may get lucky if you keep searching. Expect to pay$400 - $600. The Sony B300 recorders cost around $25 from ebay, so not muchof a comparison there! I guess it all boils down to how much you want to
spend. If it was me, I would buy them all ;)I am sure Chad will have his own preferences when it comes to alternativesto the RR-DR60.Hope this helps.Kind regards,MarkGhost Finders ScotlandParanormal Investigations & Research

"I am sure Chad will have his own preferences when it comes to alternatives to the RR-DR60." -I have no experience either with the Panasonic US360, but some with the Sony B300 and would agree with Mark. There are no alternatives for the results a RR-DR60 gets. After the B300, I would go analog. Probably reel to reel to start but that is another can of worms for another time.Great question Mike!Chad

http://www.youtube.com/user/AfterTwilightRadioAfter Twilight Radio's Chad Austin is joined by Ghost Finders Scotland's Mark Turner to analyze an audio capture believed to contain spirit voices known as EVP. This f0ur part video is an EVP workshop based on a very interesting capture in Gettysburg, PA.
Please feel free to utilize these videos and take a peek beyond the veil with us as we work our way though the audio we took during an EVP session we conducted with Ghosts of Gettysburg's Mark Nessbit.
